Initiatives & Programs
At Saiguru Seva Sanstha, we are dedicated to creating a supportive environment for visually impaired students, allowing them to pursue their education and personal growth with dignity. Since our establishment in 2016, we have focused on providing essential care, accommodation, and opportunities for students in Narhe and Wagholi, Pune.
Safe and Affordable Accommodation
Safe housing is essential for every student to thrive. However, managing accommodations for 100-plus students requires significant resources:
- **Narhe**: More than 25 girls live in a 2 BHK flat with a monthly rent of Rs. 16,000, excluding electricity costs.
- **Wagholi**: More than 75 students (both girls and boys) live across multiple units, with a monthly rent of Rs. 65,000
- **Water Challenges**: The Wagholi residences do not have direct water access, necessitating tanker deliveries that cost Rs. 15,000 per month.
Our goal is to continue improving our students' infrastructure and housing facilities, making their everyday lives more comfortable.
Transportation Support for Students
Navigating public transport poses significant challenges for visually impaired students. They face difficulties such as:
- Identifying bus routes and stops.
- Experiencing long waiting times due to missed buses or a lack of real-time information.
- Encountering safety risks during peak hours, especially in the absence of designated platforms.
We aim to provide improved transportation assistance and safer commuting options, ensuring our students can travel comfortably and focus on their studies.
Education Empowerment through Scholarships
Education is central to our mission. We are committed to:
- Providing scholarships to deserving students to help them pursue higher education.
- Assisting students in managing tuition fees, particularly for courses that receive little government support.
- Simplifying the often complex government procedures so that students can access educational benefits more efficiently.
Although some courses offer discounts for visually impaired students, there is still a significant need for financial support among many students.
Access to Healthcare Services
Our students face significant difficulties in accessing affordable healthcare. Many are unable to receive:
- Regular health check-ups and preventive care.
- Affordable medications and treatments due to high costs.
Our goal is to ensure students have access to necessary healthcare services, fostering both their physical and mental well-being.
Empowering Through Music: Our Orchestra Initiative
Sai Guru Seva Sanstha empowers visually impaired students by providing opportunities through music. The orchestra program serves as a platform for artistic expression and a source of income, helping students build confidence, engage with audiences, and achieve financial independence. By performing at various events, the program raises funds that directly support students’ educational, healthcare, and residential needs. This initiative not only enhances their musical abilities but also encourages community support, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives and attain greater self-reliance.
Our Current Impact
Currently, over 100 visually impaired students—both girls and boys—are benefiting from our initiatives. We offer them a safe and supportive environment to pursue education at various levels, including junior college, senior college, and specialized courses. However, our journey is far from over, as we aim to tackle ongoing challenges related to housing, mobility, healthcare, and education.
